Those flimsy plastic bags for produce that are used in supermarkets (when I go) are really annoying and always tearing. Here is a small cotton bag I made for produce. It's just the right size for larger items and expands to hold a lot more than you would think. I wrote the pattern myself and have given many as gifts so far everyone has loved them.
The bag in the pic is holding eight pounds of sweet potatoes and oranges.

Wow, that's awesome.. Would you be able to give us the pattern? I'd love to be able to make a bunch of grocery bags so I'd never have to use plastic bags again..

I would love to share but first I need to rewrite it. I went to make another one and discovered kool aid spilled all over the pattern :( but it won't take me that long.

I would love the pattern, too! In fact, I've spent the past few weeks attempting to come up with my own pattern/design! (and like yours better! LOL!)
