I have an old Lilac bush that needs to be moved. The bush is probably fifteen years old and has pretty much stopped blooming, I think that the roots are bound because of the soil were it is right now.
My question is can I dig up the bush and separate it into smaller bushes without killing the whole thing?

Here it is in the summer

yes you should be able to divide it. They bloom early sowould wait til after it blooms. You probably need to prune it as well the flowers form on year old branches. please chime in if i've misspoken everyone.

Thanks I was thinking it would be all right. I am going to go ahead and transplant it in the next few weeks, as long as the bushes don't die I am fine waiting a little while for the flowers.
