In order for me to become 100% self-sufficient, a family of 4, food production must be the priority. So I decided to follow a book that I thoroughly enjoy called, The New Self-Sufficient Gardener ~ John Seymour.
It requires 8 plots (in my case... it's raise beds) in order to keep the food production moving along with a green house and fruit trees. My 6 fruit trees are planted and 4 more (peach / nectarines) are on the way.
I decided that building the beds would be my first step before starting on the gray water system/fish production. I have 5 of them done I will post a few more pictures when the rest are finished and I have fresh gardening soil in them.

The center one on the left looks like it has something in it.. What is that, by chance?

That’s a large glass window. It's a 4 x 4' piece that will be moved from one side of the bed to the other... pending on sprouts. It will be part of my 'seed bed' that will start most of my seedlings before putting them in there permanent location throughout the gardens & landscape.

I got up early today to finish the frames before my garden soil arrives.
When I wife came outside I could feel the 'yikes' when she saw the amount of space it took out of the yard. But, although I am smart enough not to remind her, she did say the backyard was mine. :p

Here is a closer look at my 'seed bed' with the glass over top. I am hoping that this design will protect my young seedlings as will as allowing warmth and air flow to keep them healthy.
My neighbor gave that to me. It was junk in his garage. yah!

One man's trash is another man's treasure.. Way to recycle and reuse.. And the way you're using it sounds like a great idea..
