No exactly renewable energy, but homemade power. Last thursday morning we lost power here due to a storm. The grid was down from 8:00am thursady until 3:00 pm friday. All my hard work putting up my garden from last year was saved along with other family members who live in the area's meats and dairy products. Roughly 600 dollars in food thanks to the diesel generator I installed a few years ago. I had the only house in the area with lights etc. I was able to run my gas furnace, cook, shower and run the dishwasher. In times like these it was a huge comfort. The dollar amount of the saved food almost paid for the diesel engine itself!:)

Diesel Generators are awsome. The Diesel engine was originally designed to use Vegetable Oil and most still can with little modification. God bless Rudolph Diesel.
