While I agree with what Mel says in this video, special circumstances sometimes warrant the use of pressure treated wood to build beds. Here in the very wet PNW, anything less rots within a year or two, which is cost prohibative. Most of the local raised bed gardeners I know use pressure treated.

Finally, since switching from arsenic to copper several years ago, it has become much safer.

That said, if you can get a decade more or less from any other inexpensive wood in your area, don't buy PT.
